June 5 Ride

I would have been happy with wieners, but slow roasted BBQ brisket, baked beans and potato salad was the perfect beginning to a great evening. The ride started out with Spider Man leading 13 motorcycles out of the Rexburg Motorsports parking lot; a few Harleys, a few sport bikes, a mix of cruisers and a Spyder leading it all. The Can Am Spyder is made by BRP, the maker of Ski Doo sleds and that thing looks just like a Ski Doo with wheels. A little more metro-sexual than an Idaho hillbilly is used to, as far as ride company goes.

We cruised through some curvy Ririe country roads and then headed toward Swan Valley on highway 26. We stopped at the Rainy Creek Station for a stretch before heading up Pine Creek Pass towards Victor. We spread out a little through the twisties and saw 3 deer on the way up. It was a little chilly, but the snow is pretty well gone, even at the top of the pass (6,800 ft). This was the funnest part of the ride with constant turns up and down the mountain. In Driggs, we stopped at the Chevron. Andy had to check his shorts at that stop after taking an off-roading detour from the mountain road. Everything was OK and we were good to go on back to Rexburg.

On the final stretch it looked like we might hit some storm clouds by Teton, but Mother Nature was good to us and we stayed dry all the way home. Earlier in the day it had rained, and Spyder Man went a little fast on the highway home. I hear Lance might take the lead next week to keep the ride a little more casual and simmered down. As long as there’s BBQ at some point in the evening, I’m good with whatever pace.

He got the Spyder through a Rexburg Motorsports connection dealer in the Midwest. The word is that Rexburg Motorsports will be a Spyder dealership in Stage 3 of the National Spyder rollout which is in September 2008. Rexburg Motorsports is taking deposits for the first 25 - 2009 models that arrive.
